Risk assessment and remediation of NAPL contaminated soil and groundwater

چکیده
Abstract The presence of water-immiscible organic liquids—commonly called non-aqueous phase liquids or NAPLs—in soils and groundwater, is a worldwide environmental problem. Typical examples NAPLs include: petroleum products, solvents liquid waste from laboratories industry. molecular components present in soils, rocks groundwater are readily transferred to the vapour aqueous phases. extent which they do this determined by their solubility (which quite limited) pressure can be high). These components, once dispersed dissolved phase, provide long-term source harm biotic receptors. object lecture text examine how we assess degree using quantitative risk assessment NAPL contaminated environments restored through use chemical, biological physical remediation technologies. Risk-based assessment of soil and groundwater quality in The Netherlands: standards and remediation urgency.
To assess soil and groundwater quality two generic (i.e. multifunctional) risk-based standards, Target and Intervention Value, have been developed, in the framework of the Dutch Soil Protection Act. These standards allow soil and groundwater to be classified as clean, slightly contaminated or seriously contaminated. The Target Value is based on potential risks to ecosystems, while the Intervent...
متن کاملRemediation of MTBE Contaminated Water and Soil
As the number of leaking underground fuel tank sites with MTBE contamination continues to grow, there is a need to develop cost-effective solutions for treatment of soil and water contamination. MTBE poses special challenges due to its physicochemical properties, in particular high solubility and low Henry’s constant, low affinity for sorption, and very slow rate of microbial degradation. Advan...
متن کاملThermal Remediation of Tar-Contaminated Soil and Oil-Contaminated Gravel
Pilot plant studies were carried out to evaluate the feasibility of remediation of coal tarcontaminated soil and oil-contaminated gravel by incineration with environmentally acceptable performance. In addition to adequate decontamination and emission control, effort was devoted to treating the special feedstocks with difficult handling properties by use of conventional combustion and feeding sy...
متن کاملRemediation technologies for heavy metal contaminated groundwater.
The contamination of groundwater by heavy metal, originating either from natural soil sources or from anthropogenic sources is a matter of utmost concern to the public health. Remediation of contaminated groundwater is of highest priority since billions of people all over the world use it for drinking purpose. In this paper, thirty five approaches for groundwater treatment have been reviewed an...
